Excelling as a One Person HR Department

Please Note: Seminar times include lunch

Being the only one available when somebody needs help or advice is one of the major differences between large organisations with a Human Resources department and small organisations with an HR individual. Along with everyday fires, you also need to keep your company out of hot water by submitting loads of HR reports on time, keeping accurate staff records, and along the way, trying to make time to save your company money by claiming Training Fees back from the SETA.

Seminar Warehouse has prepared a morning Seminar of the key elements that make up the of the role of HR in a small to medium sized company, and the practical ways that a one person HR department can keep up to date with their work, while still being available to assist managers with day-to-day staff problems that crop up.

Spend some time with a seasoned HR professional who understands the frustrations and challenges you face on a daily basis. The information gained will be invaluable to improving the service you, as the person responsible for HR, delivers to your company. The information you gain will ultimately save you enough time to survive in your role in the organisation, allowing you to provide your management with the level of support that the company needs from you.

Key elements covered during this half day seminar:

  • Understanding what value HR should be adding to your company, so that you can focus your efforts in these areas
  • The benefits of composing an "HR Policies and Procedures Manual" that can be used to save managers time and avoid legal issues at a later date
  • How to set up an Employee Induction Program, and what written and "un-written" company rules should be covered during this program
  • What your responsibilities are as HR should you be brought news of harassment or discriminatory behaviour, and what steps you are obliged to take
  • How you can assist and guide a manager, from a Labour Law perspective, if he or she has an employee who is underperforming in their job
  • What steps do you need to take and records do you need to keep if an employee has an accident at work - even if it seems minor
  • The practical application of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and how this translates into controlling things like leave, sick leave and other absences
  • What HR Reports need to be compiled and submitted for your company to comply with Employment Equity, B-BBEE, SARS, OHS and other Legislations
  • How the SETA system operates, and the steps you need take to claim training fees back from the Skills Development Levy that your company pays
  • Discovering key skills for new recruitment and dealing with recruitment agencies to ensure you get the best people who fit into your organisation
